The Readathon offers students the chance to help people living with MS by simply reading books and getting sponsors.
The Readathon program often begins with an in-school assembly about multiple sclerosis as well as about disability awareness and sensitivity. The program encourages students to get sponsors and then read as many books as they can in 30 days. In return for their efforts, students can choose from a range of prizes. Based on the total amount of dollars raised by the students within the school, the school can choose from prizes as well.
You don't have to register for the Readathon program through a school. Many local libraries host Readathon programs or you are welcome to sign-up directly with our office. Home-school students are welcome to participate through a library or directly with our office.
Top fundraising students and a parent are invited to a Wilmington Blue Rocks game and to enjoy a special party sponsored by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Wilmington Blue Rocks. In addition, each the top Reader and Fundraiser at each school receive a trophy to recognize their accomplishments.
Schools who coordinate Readathon programs are eligible for free books and grants to purchase school supplies.
Libraries are also eligible for grants depending on the amount of money raised.
